Children’s Round Dance

The Children’s Dance fountain, an iconic photo that became a symbol of the destructive Battle of Stalingrad, is back in its place in the Russian city of Volgograd.
Officially named the Children's Khorovod, literally ‘Children’s Round Dance’, the fountain initially installed in 1939 was one of the symbols of the city formally known as Stalingrad. The statue of six children dancing around a crocodile became famous worldwide due to several pictures that a Soviet photographer took after the German army’s devastating bombings. The black-and-white snapshots showed children playing happily, with a ruined city in the background.
Numerous bombs hitting the city, made it one huge fire, with burning neighborhoods, streets, ships and even the Volga River. The fountain survived and stood only partly damaged by shell fragments. Since then the fountain became a symbol of a devastated, but undefeated city.

The symbolic fountain was restored after the war, but then removed in 1950s as the city was being rebuilt and developed after the war. In 2013 the fountain has been restored to commemorate the victims of the massive bombing of Stalingrad in 1942, in which 40,000 civilians were killed

President Vladimir Putin has officially opened the fountain on the city’s square nearby the main railway station.

At 4:18pm local time (12:18 GMT) – the exact time the German army started bombing the city – a smaller replica of the fountain will be also opened near the museum panorama

Flying Ladybirds Day (Kalendarru)

Look at   Kalendarru.Today is   Flying Ladybirds (or  Ladybugs) day. They come to us with our childhood."Божья коровка, полети на небко, там - твои детки, кушают конфетки".We know these words from our early ages. But does english children talk with ladybugs?

Ladybug! Ladybug!
Fly away home.
Your house is on fire.
And your children all gone.

All except one,
And that's little Ann,
For she crept under
The frying pan.

What do you know about ladybugs life?

RUSSIAN FLAG DAY

And how many countries have a red, white and blue flags? 10, 20,30..?
 Going by member states of the United Nations, and counting only those flags which have all three colors -- red, white, and blue -- and no other color at all, we find twenty:

Australia
Chile
Cuba
Czech Republic
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (a/k/a North Korea)
France
Iceland
Lao People's Democratic Republic (aka Laos)
Luxembourg
Nepal
Netherlands
New Zealand
Norway
Panama
Russian Federation
Samoa
Slovakia
Thailand
United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Island
United States of America

If we count Taiwan, which is not a UN member, that would bring the total to twenty one.

Can you match these flags with the countries?

AMERICA, THE BEAUTIFUL

The Fourth of July is also called Independence Day. It is a federal holiday. Schools, banks, post offices, and government offices are closed on the Fourth of July. The Fourth of July is our most important national holiday because it celebrates the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence announced America's independence from Britain. It was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thomas Jefferson was the main writer of the Declaration of Independence.

And what do you know about US symbols?

Official Symbols represent the cultural heritage and natural treasures of each state or the entire United States Each state and region is also recognized by well-known icons and emblems such as state flag and seals.

PUSHKIN IS OUR EVERYTHING

 Aleksandr Pushkin is  one of Russia's greatest poets. He  brought Russian poetry to its highest excellence and also had a great influence on all Russian literature in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His birthday date (June 6)  is marked as International Day of Russian Language. We have known Pushkin's poems from an early age. Do you remenber these words?...

An animated cartoon "U Lukomorya...." In English language
Prologue to Ruslan and Lyudmilla
There’s a green oak by the bay,
on the oak a chain of gold:
a learned cat, night and day,
walks round on that chain of old:
to the right – it spins a song,
to the left – a tale of wrong.
Marvels there: the wood-sprite rides,
in the leaves a mermaid hides:
on deep paths of mystery
unknown creatures leave their spoor:
huts on hen’s legs you can see,
with no window and no door.
Wood and valley vision-brimming:
there at dawn the waves come washing
over sands and silent shore,
and thirty noble knights appear
one by one, from waters clear,
attended there by their tutor:
a king’s son passing by
takes a fierce king prisoner:
a wizard carries through the sky
a knight, past all the people there,
over forests, seas they fly:
a princess in a prison pines,
whom a brown wolf serves with pride:
A mortar, Baba Yaga inside,
takes that old witch for a ride.
King Kaschey grows ill with gold.
It’s Russia! – Russian scents unfold!
And I was there and I drank mead,
I saw the green oak by the sea,
I sat there while the learned cat
told its stories – here’s one that
I remember, and I’ll unfurl,
a story now for all the world…
                  ( translation byTony Kline -
            Prologue to Ruslan and Lyudmilla)
У лукоморья дуб зелёный;
Все ходит по цепи кругом;
Русалка на ветвях сидит;
Следы невиданных зверей;
Стоит без окон, без дверей;
Там лес и дол видений полны;
И с ними дядька их морской;
Пленяет грозного царя;
Колдун несет богатыря;
А бурый волк ей верно служит;
Идет, бредёт сама собой;
Там царь Кащей над златом чахнет;
И там я был, и мед я пил;
У моря видел дуб зелёный;

"This is Martin, 8. He died in the Boston bombing yesterday. He was at the finish line with his family, waiting for his dad to cross. His mother and little sister were catastrophically injured. He was the student of our dear friend, Rachel Moo. His message resonates powerfully today. My prayer is that we all live by Martin's words, paying tribute to his too-brief, but immeasurably valuable life by following his example
